DSC 0968Help came in a concrete form for two families living in Kaliganj near the capital Dhaka. Monir Mollah, a daily wage laborer, could only afford to live in a shanty with his wife and two children. His own brothers had refused to take him and his family in. Farida’s husband used to be a daily wage laborer until he injured his back at work. Although their daughter was already grown up, they had no choice but to share a small hut. With their limited income, they were unable to build a new house. Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh not only funded the new houses for the families of Monir Hossain and Farida but also sent 36 staff as volunteer builders. In May 2017, both families moved into their new homes and marked the start of a new life.

"At this age and with the present health condition, I would never be able to build such a beautiful home for my family. We are blessed that we met Habitat" said Habitat home owner Farida Begum's husband (right at right the photograph). Their only daughter is 13 years old and she dreams to be an engineer in the future.
